In the labor context, an organization attempting to improve wages, hours and working conditions for its members by, for example:
• Bargaining with employers over terms and conditions of employment and collective bargaining agreements.
• Striking.
• Picketing.
• Filing formal grievances.
Workers elect a union to represent them concerning these matters. Unions and the employees they represent are granted certain rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) administers and enforces the NLRA.
